Summer Playdays 2019

Please note that the deadline for bookings for the OASIS Summer Playdays is 6pm on Friday 28th June. Booking requests made after this deadline will not be successful.

Playdays are available to OASIS members only. If you are not currently a member then please visit our MEMBERSHIP page to join OASIS before applying for any Playdays places.

Rowing & Picnic

Date: Friday 26th July

Time: 11:30-14:30

Where: Riverside Centre for Outdoor Learning, Donnington Bridge, Meadow Lane, OXFORD OX4 4AZ

Cost per child: £8

Age range: 3+

Back by popular demand we have managed to arrange another day of rowing along the Thames. we will split into groups and canoe up the river in, when back we will then have the opportunity to take part in some rock climbing a picnic lunch then the chance to use  individual and double canoes  in small groups.

Cutteslowe Park

Date: Wednesday 31st July

Time: 12:30pm-16:30pm

Venue: Harbord Road, Kidlington, Oxfordshire, OX2 8NP

Suitable ages: All

Cost £2.50 per child

There’s something for everyone to do on this Playday:

  • orienteering with the 18 control course (maps available at the kiosk/office)
  • use the three children’s play areas. 2 are on the Cutteslowe side and 1 on the Sunnymead side
  • play football or cricket on the grass pitches
  • play informal football or basketball in the street sports site
  • grab a bat and play table tennis on one of three tables
  • watch the ducks in the duck pond or the birds in our aviary
  • have a game of Beach Volleyball
  • play a round of miniature golf on the new course (hire clubs at the kiosk)
  • skate the concrete skate park with ramps and grind rail
  • have a game of tennis on the outdoor tennis courts (book at the kiosk)
  • grab a drink or a bite to eat at San Remo’s cafe
  • climb the tree trunks
  • Splash ‘n’ Play will open, with lots of interactive water play, jets and water ways it has something for everyone to enjoy

We have hired the pavilion so we have a base for the day and will supply drinks and snacks. Don’t forget to bring your picnics and enjoy a lovely day.

Swings & Smiles

Dates: Monday 5thAugust

Time: 13:00-15:00

Venue: Lower Way, Thatcham RG19 3RR

Cost per child: £5

Age range: All

Come and join us for some fun at swings and smiles. We have exclusive use and is a come and go as you please playday.

Swings and smile have a range of play settings available with appropriate equipment, toys and opportunities to try new experiences. We meet a wide range of access and handling requirements and emphasis is placed on the sensory needs of users.

Their Facilities

Our building has been designed to ensure meet the needs of a wide range of children. We provide many opportunities for play, cooking, art, sport and much more. We have a personal care room and space to eat if you want to bring a picnic with you. Our garden is totally secure and the building is on one level. There is also a totally separate and fully equipped area for siblings to be able to enjoy some time for themselves.

Indoors

We include the following facilities:

  • Sensory room
  • Soft play area
  • Activity room

Outdoors

  • Open space for play
  • Sensory garden, including vegetable garden and mud kitchen
  • Fully accessible swings – including wheelchair swing
  • In-ground trampoline
  • Mini golf
  • Large slide and climbing frame
  • Interactive sensory area

All these facilities contribute to a range of experiences which can be stimulating or restful as required. They create an environment in which those with special needs and their families can be themselves and grow together.

Snowzone

Date: 7th August 2019

Time: 10:00 – 13:00.

Venue: 602, Marlborough gate, Milton Keynes MK9 3XS.

Cost per child: £8

Age range: 4+

We have organised a coach trip for this one off opportunity. The pick up/drop off points for this will be Didcot train station at 8:15am, Abingdon will be Broad Street at 8:40am & Peartree services, Oxford at 9:00am with a view to arriving at 10:15am.

Come and join us for a 60 minute sledging session with REAL snow!! It’s very cold inside with the air temp being -10c. We’ve not tried this before but it sounds like lots of fun. All equipment is available, you would  just need to dress according to the temperature.

Henley River & Rowing Museum

Date: Tuesday 13th August

Another popular playday for OASIS members, the day at Henley River and Rowing Museum includes a hands on workshop and a chance to explore the museum. After a picnic lunch, you will then head out on to the Thames for a boat ride.

Please note that although the museum is wheelchair accessible, buggies and wheelchairs are not allowed on the boat.

Cotswold Water Park

When: Friday 16th August

Time: 10am onwards

Where: Cotswold Country Park & Beach, Spratsgate Lane, Shorncote, Cirencester GL7 6DF

Age range: All

Travel: We are putting together a coach trip to this amazing venue. The pick up points for this will be Didcot train station at 8:05am, Abingdon Broad Street at 8:25 and Oxford Pear Tree services at 8:45am with a view to arrive at 10am. Please note that this playday is only available to OASIS members travelling on the coach. If you wish to come along using your own transport, then you will need to arrange your own booking directly with Cotswold Country Park & Beach.

Here’s a little info about what’s available. The children’s swimming & paddling lagoon at the Cotswold inland beach is supervised by lifeguards in peak season. Kids will love the adventure playgrounds and junior climbing walls. All sitting within extensive parkland perfect for picnics and relaxing. Enjoy swan pedalos, rowing boats, mini–port themed electric boats and the awesome Vertigo Adventures can all be booked at the park. Head to the water with friends and family for the activity zone water sports. Hire a swan pedalo and glide along the lake, captain your own electric mini port boat, row the lake or jump into a water walker and pick up steam! Everything is available to hire on the day at the Dragonfly booking office. Try out the Beach Shack Café offering a delicious take away menu, from burgers to wraps, drinks and ice creams. Visit the Pizzeria with views over the lake serving wood-fired pizzas. The NorthLake is home to kayaking, Standup Paddleboarding and the WIBIT AquaVenture. Paddle the north lake in a single or tandam kayak, a great way to explore the lakes at your own pace!

SOAP Playday

Date: Sunday 25thAugust

Time: 13:30 – 16:30

Venue: South Oxford Adventure Playground, Whitehouse Road, Grandpont OX1 4PA

Cost per child: £5

There is so much for the kids to do on this playday. SOAP will be closed to others for the duration. It offers a wooden fort, tower to climb, zip wire, football pitch, tyre and rope swings, den making area, wobbly bridge and lots of trees to climb. We will also provide some bubbles and a disco dome.

Camping at SOAP

Date: Sunday 25th – Monday 26thAugust

Time: 17:30 Sunday – 11:00 Monday

Venue: South Oxford Adventure Playground, Whitehouse Road, Grandpont OX1 4PA

Cost per person: £8 per person

Age suitability: All

An opportunity to camp out in a relaxed and secure environment. SOAP is closed to the public during our stay. We have full access to all the facilities at SOAP as well as:

  • Disco dome
  • Roasting marshmallows
  • Movies
  • Dinner/breakfast will be provided
  • Bubbles
  • Glow sticks
  • Indoor arts and crafts.

PLEASE NOTE: You will need to supply your own tents and camping equipment.

Shilton

Date: Friday 30thAugust

Time: 10:00 – 14:30

Venue: Church Lane, Shilton OX18 4AE

Cost per child: £2.50

Age range: All

OASIS are back to Shilton for their popular annual summer playday. Organised by an Oasis member, the day starts with arts and crafts activities in the village hall (with coffee and biscuits for the adults). We then head off to the village ford (big shallow pond) for a picnic lunch followed by a bit of wading and fish netting. It’s a packed family day out but also very relaxed. Children can take part in the elements that work for them or choose to sit parts out.
